    With the success of the animated show (no, not the one with the gorilla), the subversive and dark mystique of the original film gave way to a more kid friendly and goofy sequel -- one where a NES Advantage control deck is able to pilot the Statue of Liberty, animated by some empathic slime and the sultry crooning of Jackie Wilson. And the franchise never recovered.
